More details of the incidents including a photo of attacker were published. The man was arrested in Norfolk and "indicted by a federal grand jury with five counts of assault on federal land, one count of impersonating a federal officer, and hate crimes sentencing enhancements, according to a release from the DOJ."

Announced yesterday, a man was indicted for impersonating a police officer and pepper spraying five men here at night. The charges include a hate crime enhancement because he targeted men he "believed were gay." The attacks were over a period of several years, 2008 to 2021.

The same man was acquitted of similar charges last year for attacks at Daingerfield Island in Northern Virginia.

Was there on Thursday night August 13, 2020 from 1:30 pm to 4 am. Lots of folks in the park, a mix of straight people hanging out and the fellas cruising for action.

At about 11:30 to midnight the park seemed to shift to only guys who were out looking to play. The cops sat outside of the park for a few hours from 1 am till I left, but they never actually came in to the park, not sure what they were really doing there.

Lots of action all over the park in spite of the cops being there. Definitely a place to go to and play at night.

The U.S. Park Police has had operations and arrests at the park:
In a little-noticed development, U.S. Park Police have made at least 26 arrests during the past year in Meridian Hill Park in D.C. of men seeking other men for a sexual encounter after they allegedly act in a way that violates the law, according to a Park Police spokesperson.

Sgt. Eduardo Delgado, a Park Police public information officer, told the Washington Blade the 26 arrests made in the park since Aug. 7, 2018 involve charges of one or a combination of Disorderly Conduct, Lewd Acts, Unlawful Entry, and Simple Assault (Sexual).

He said he couldn’t immediately determine if the arrests were made by plain clothes or uniformed officers, but said the arrests were prompted by complaints from the public about “lewd acts” in the park.
Some of the attorneys say their clients were arrested by undercover officers posing as men looking for sex. For background:
Meridian Hill Park, also known as Malcolm X Park, has been known for at least 50 years as a cruising spot for mostly African-American gay men. In past years, men who go to the park to seek other men for sexual encounters have told the Washington Post and the Washington City Paper that the cruising often takes place late at night in secluded areas of the park covered by shrubs, bushes and trees.

Similar to other cruising locations in the city, the men interviewed by the Post and City Paper have said they sometimes invited the person they met at the park to their homes or another private location and did not engage in sex in the park.

LGBT activists have said the number of arrests of gay men in public places like parks appears to have declined dramatically in recent years due to the proliferation of online gay meet-up sites and apps like Grindr, in which a sexual tryst can be arranged quickly without the risk of outdoor cruising.

Love coming here for years. Cops are always out. Just be careful. Walk around the perimeter of the park a few times. If no police then dive in.

I have so much awesome sex here that evading the pigs is just par for the course. And well worth it!

Was here early this morning around 1:30. There were about seven other guys there besides me. One East African (maybe Somalian or Yemeni), two Hispanic, four black. Two of the black dudes let me watch them freak in the lower part of the park.

I didn't participate because I didn't find anybody that suited my tastes — I'm kinda picky. I'm guessing there are more options earlier in the evening or maybe on weekends.

Ditto. When the lower level bathroom was open, you were guaranteed a feast, day or night.

You can still have fun but not the hot spot it used to be. Also beware of when the park is closed, Midnight Summer and Fall, 9 pm Winter and Spring. Cops can arrest you just for being in the park.

This spot used to be incredible but then they closed the bathrooms on the lower level. Huge loss. Most action at night but gotta watch for Park Police! They come through regularly looking for guys having sex.

I've been to this park many times over the past 10 years. Always, always keep your eyes pealed for the po po! Stay in the lower end. Lots of action there. I was stopped by the police once but I was only warned. It's best to walk around the park a few times and decide if the police are there. I also was assaulted once, some crack head pushed me down and stole my passport. Just be careful but this place can be sexy. Safe times are 10 pm to 12 midnight or 4am to 6am.

It's a wrap! Do not even think about wasting your time here anymore. Almost all the bushes on the ENTIRE 15th Street side of the park have been cut down. The tallest bush barely reached my knee. I went yesterday at 3 am and saw at least 6 flashlights searching the steps and side passage ways.

Getting active again with the better weather, but the bathroom is boarded up and lots of bushes and trees have been cut down so there are less hiding places. Even with all this, I went last night and a slim hot guy took me into a discreet spot and gave me head and then his ass.

Very hot park; however, the police started cracking down back in October. I got arrested there and spent most of the night in Jail. They let me out so I could walk the eight or so miles back to my car. Had to go to court. Good thing was the case was dropped -- now I'm working on getting the record sealed. Be very careful. I've had my fill of that place. The thing is the police didn't catch me doing anything -- just being there after closing!

Warning. They were arresting dudes up in there earlier this month. I was walking through, by myself, cutting across to the other side and got arrested. Charged with unlawful entry and have a court date. The charge is a misdemeanor, but in DC you can't get it expunged, only sealed. This means that law enforcement can always see it, but potential employers, current employers, etc. can't. I've hired a lawyer to make sure that this is handled in the most discreet way possible. Very disappointed since it was twenty minutes after the park closed and I was just pulling though. Be very careful. They are undercover too. I heard one cope talking to the other while I had my cuffs on and sitting on the very cold ground.

Sex doesn't get any better at this spot. You've just got to keep your eyes open for the cops that occasionally come. If you're alert you will not have any problems. Simply dart out of the park. I go at least two to three times a week and always after 1 am. I've fucked guys in the alcove at the top while three to eight other guys watched. Most action is found on the lower level of the park, especially around the water fountain late at night. Lots of bushes. Just hang around and someone will be at your service shortly. But be careful: Locals might recognize danger when they see it, but visitors could be badly harmed, if not just robbed.
