The U.S. Park Police has had operations and arrests at the park: In a little-noticed development, U.S. Park Police have made at least 26 arrests during the past year in Meridian Hill Park in D.C. of men seeking other men for a sexual encounter after they allegedly act in a way that violates the law, according to a Park Police spokesperson. Sgt. Eduardo Delgado, a Park Police public information officer, told the Washington Blade the 26 arrests made in the park since Aug. 7, 2018 involve charges of one or a combination of Disorderly Conduct, Lewd Acts, Unlawful Entry, and Simple Assault (Sexual). He said he couldn’t immediately determine if the arrests were made by plain clothes or uniformed officers, but said the arrests were prompted by complaints from the public about “lewd acts” in the park. Meridian Hill Park, also known as Malcolm X Park, has been known for at least 50 years as a cruising spot for mostly African-American gay men. In past years, men who go to the park to seek other men for sexual encounters have told the Washington Post and the Washington City Paper that the cruising often takes place late at night in secluded areas of the park covered by shrubs, bushes and trees. Similar to other cruising locations in the city, the men interviewed by the Post and City Paper have said they sometimes invited the person they met at the park to their homes or another private location and did not engage in sex in the park. LGBT activists have said the number of arrests of gay men in public places like parks appears to have declined dramatically in recent years due to the proliferation of online gay meet-up sites and apps like Grindr, in which a sexual tryst can be arranged quickly without the risk of outdoor cruising. I've noticed when I'm waiting for my bus to work in the morning, the university police drive by me on the days when my neighbor and her illegal guest haven't already left for work. I've noticed regular monitoring at the Loring Ave. bus stops by hicks from Rainbow Terrace, illegal housing guests and unemployed drunks on welfare who make multiple trips to the liquor store for nips and smokes day and night, timing their walks with the bus schedule. They're monitoring the bus stops and the bike path next to the Enterprise Center. The douchebags at the Loring Ave. firehouse monitor activity as well. What angers me is that these people are monitoring us at our taxpayer expense. We're subsidizing our tormentors. As for the firehouse, just noting that one of the firemen is a Salem city councilor. I can't say his name so I'll just call him Rim Sin. Salem residents can figure out who I'm talking about. |

I do agree with the other review below that this place had picked up since the demise of Craigslist. However, as of late there is now an influx of police presence in this park. I would highly recommend not cruising here. Every time I've been here recently there has either been a cop stationed or driving through every thirty minutes. The extra police presence is due to recent vandalism and graffiti that has happened in this park after dark. The bathrooms and some building structures were destroyed using some construction equipment that was left in the park. Also racial epithets were painted onto signs. Long story short the park is flaming hot right now with police and I wouldn't risk cruising here at least until things cool down — within the next six months if not longer. |

Here to help out the young gay teens of Cleburne, Texas who are naive about undercover cops out there at Buddy Stewart, Hulen Park (new restroom), and Meadowbrook Village Shopping Center. Always let the other guy make the first move. If someone comes toward your car and comes on too strong then say you are just resting. They can't do anything. Especially Meadowbrook Village is where these cops congregate. Look out for these cars: red Jeep Wrangler, yellow sports car (Camaro or Corvette). Totally disagree with the previous comment. First, there is no toilet at Memorial Park. At the south parking there are some portable johns, that's it. The restroom that many years ago was very popular among cocksuckers was demolished. Second, I would be very careful because there is intense police patrolling especially in the south side. The illegals wait there to jump on the train and serious accidents had occurred. For their safety the cops are patrolling the park especially at the times the train crosses. I live very close by and on my evening walks I've seen the cops asking people to move on. Occasionally you will see a guy romancing his chick at a car or a guy in a van eating his lunch. That's about it. Memorial Heights is a very upscale historic neighborhood, especially the houses facing the north side and they do not hesitate to call the police if suspicious activities are seen. In late February the OSU Department of Public Safety said ...they received a report of someone attempting to film the occupant of a stall in the men's bathroom of the Memorial Union Building (MU)... ...This incident comes a few weeks after another student was arraigned on a first-degree felony invasion of privacy charge for allegedly creating and using a small hole in a stall of the sixth floor men’s bathroom in the Valley Library. There is no evidence these two cases are related... The lawyer for the student arraigned in the Library incident said ... the root of the incident was "gay cruising," the practice of homosexual men finding public places to meet and have sex without being caught. The Daily Barometer found "multiple Facebook pages, blog sites and news articles that have referenced the Valley Library’s sixth floor bathroom as a frequented place for cruising." While public safety officials claimed in January that these cases are unprecedented, they are presented alongside claims that Valley Library has seen incidents like this before. After Lopez was arrested, reports stated that "the library bathrooms have now been checked for holes in the walls, and all that were found have been filled." I've seen a guy here that also goes to Sheepfold but I think he's monitoring cruisers. He's a fast power walker, looks like a Waldo with gray wavy hair, glasses, clean shaven. He spies on cruisers and gets all tee-hee about it. Avoid him. | Feb 16 2019 |
