Stopped in twice over the week of 6 May. The trails on the east side show great opportunity but apparently my timing didn't! There's signage indicating that to park there, one should have a Tonto Recreation Sticker which deterred me from hanging around.

It seems there was a brush fire at mile marker 22. Everything between the dirt parking lot and the river is gone. Damage extends along the road in both directions.

Now that it's cooler, there seems to be much more action here at night on a Friday or Saturday night. The busiest spots are the dirt lot past mile marker 22 and just before that at the Granite Reef Recreation area. Plenty of areas to cruise and have privacy at either of those locations.
