This is the nicest bathhouse I've ever been to. Very clean and well constructed. It's a masculine/industrial look. They have a spa, steamroom, video room setup for light action, and a shower area in view of a seating area. There is a tiny dark maze with just a couple gloryholes and a couple slings, one in the maze, the other in a room. There's a private (i.e., you can't see it from Interstate 84) rooftop sundeck to enjoy when the weather is good.

It is a bathhouse for sure, and not an arcade like most places listed on this site, but if that's what you're looking for, you'll love it! Also, check out the blackout parties: You get a glowstick-type wristband to indicate your position preference and attendance is usually high.

They have modified the layout a little bit, probably in response to the arrival of the other bathhouse. The hot tub is now screened from the entry walkway, and the video is being shown on the opposite wall from before. There is a new, short corridor with a bed, a St. Andrew's Cross, and a stall with a gloryhole. The former maze now has a video screen and a sling out in the open.

I think what is still needed is a semi-private area to fuck. I'll fuck anywhere, but some people are reluctant to do it out in the open. I miss the old bunk-bed arrangement that used to be in some of the bathhouses, where people could be seen but weren't as exposed.

Why not have lube dispensers as well as condoms in the common areas? It would be worth adding another dollar to the entry fee, if that's what it takes to pay for them. More people would fuck that way, people come to have and see sex, and visible fucking heats up the sexual atmosphere a lot more than videos.

Hats off to the excellent, friendly, hard-working staff! I salute their efforts to persuade people to use condoms. The alternative is a lot worse.

Two vastly different experiences a week apart last month.

I tend to go a few times a month and usually get lucky. I'm not chiseled by any means, but usually have plenty of fun. I tend to go on Wednesdays after work as it's discount locker day. Yes, there is a spa feel to the place, but I don't mind that. Very clean, which I appreciate. All in all, a great place.

I was amazed to see all the negative comments about Steam and frankly I totally agree! The other reviews talk about "posers" but I don't think it is the guys that frequent this place. I fault the management for paying no attention to the atmosphere. The truth is that they seem to go out of their way to diminish the sexual energy. The showers are brightly lit, the music is often some kind of new age crap, the great monitor in the locker room is tuned to CNN! How sexy is that, gay men getting undressed together as Larry King interviews Marie Osmond! I've asked these guys many times and they always say that thier customers need a place to rest. Visiting from out of town, I stopped in on a Friday mid-afternoon and stayed most of the night. Smaller venue, it's very clean and staff was friendly. The day crowd was nicer and more fun than the night crowd which had some stand and models doing no one. I've been coming to Steam since they opened, and I have to say the comments about bitchy staff are just way off the mark. The only time I've seen the staff be anything but kind is if someone comes in higher than a kite or starts acting stupid or bitchy, in which case the staff lets them know that that behavior stops before they even come in. If people act rude to staff, they will probably be bitchy queens to customers as well, so the staff is just trying to establish that there are some rules here so people don't do stupid shit, spoiling it all for everyone else. The place is clean and there's a mix of everything from super hot twinks to old nasty men and everything in between, and I've seen just about everyone get laid at one point or another.

I went to Steam today (Sunday afternoon) and had a great time. The staff and clientele were friendly, no attitude, not inhibited. Lots of group sucking in the dark room and steamroom. I live in Portland but travel often to other cities and most comments about this place are correct. This is one of the worst bathhouses in the entire country. My biggest complaint about this place is that they seem to care less about trying to make the place sexy and hot. Out of five TV monitors, two of them are tuned to CNN. This was a fantastic find. It's a very clean, modern place with nice steamroom, a six or so man hot tub, a video room that can hold a dozen or more, an outdoor sundeck for nude tanning, very nice showers, all working facilities in a newer building. Range of men is nice, both ages and ethnicities. The employees are extremely friendly. If I ever get back to Portland, I will definitely plan on spending every extra hour at Steam Portland.

Steam is bitchy and boring. From the front desk guy who said: 'You came in the exit. That's bad. That's why it says exit on it. I knew we should have put it in spanish." (It was kind of hard to read in the dark, dude). To the stylish ultra-squeaky clean interior that made me feel like I should have my nails done. Probably the best place I've ever been to get some lovin' safely. I'm not sure what some of these other guys problems were but the staff is always nice and polite, it's just that they actually have rules they follow to keep the environment a good one and try to keep it a little safer than your usual place.
